The point of this compilation, which is aimed firmly at the dancefloor, is to show how the Brazilian spirit has crept into every nook and cranny of modern dance and club music. In fact, in some areas (drum & bass being a prime example) it's almost taken over certain genres, made them something completely different, yet universally recognised as Brazilian. At the other extreme, The Lady's a Tramp sounds as if it were written specifically for the hard, bossa-jazz version meted out by the Sambalanço Trio almost forty years ago. Or was it that the esteemed Stateside composers of the tune had themselves been inspired by the sound of  Brazilian like Carmen Miranda and others, who were seeping into the New York airwaves at about the same time it was written? Chicken- or egg?

You decide. But I guess you won't be thinking about it too hard as you check this essential selection. You'll be too busy dancing to care.
